Over the years the Rural Ramble has evolved from a weekend farm tour to a season-long festival. Ramblers were initially required to purchase admission bracelets to participate and use a map to plan their itinerary. In 2010 the event was re-launched as an extended fall touring festival with no admission and free online route planning tools.
As of 2015, the Rural Ramble will no longer be an organized festival. Special events and scenic driving tours will continue to be promoted by the Ottawa Valley Tourist Association (OVTA). The expression “Rural Ramble” will still be used in fall promotions for the region. However Ramblers’ will be invited to “come for a Rural Ramble (a leisurely excursion through the countryside)” rather than “the Rural Ramble (an organized festival)”.
Ramblers are encouraged to check out the OVTA’s online calendar of events, select a scenic driving route, and spend a day...or two...or three! in the Valley this fall. Studio Tours, Taste of the Valley, underground dining, fossil hunts, self-guided hikes and giant pumpkin weigh-offs are just a few of the many experiences waiting for you. Many Ottawa Valley accommodations have special Rural Ramble packages, making it the perfect time to plan a weekend getaway.
One of only two regions in the world with the unique combination of climate and topography that results in brilliant fall foliage, the Valley is a magnificent place to enjoy throughout the autumn months. Glorious colours and crisp, cool weather make it an excellent season for exploring the countryside. Come back to the countryside with us!
